Volunteer For Us

The UK National Inventory of War Memorials is reliant upon volunteers in its work to collect information about war memorials located in the United Kingdom. Since its foundation in 1989 thousands of people have helped to record information about war memorials in the UK.

We have recorded over 56,000 memorials so far but here is still much information to be collected.

Not only do we need more help with fieldwork but we are also looking for researchers to go through their local archives and find information on the background history of war memorials.

Fieldwork

If you would be interested in helping us with fieldwork, the areas in which we currently need help are:

Northern Ireland
London: Various districts. Please contact the office, stating which areas you are able to do cover
Avon
Nottinghamshire
Greater Manchester: Photographers needed
South Glamorgan

Please note: We cannot pay travel expenses

Research

We need help in most parts of the country for background researchers. If you are interested in helping please look at the memorials in your area to get an idea of where we need help and then get in touch with us.

Data Inputting

The information that is sent to us by fieldworkers needs to be input onto our database, work that is done by staff and office based volunteers. We currently have need for one more office volunteer who can help every Thursday. If you have an apptitude for computer based work and are interested in helping us then give us a call.

Following a successful trial we also have a couple of volunteers who input remotely from their own homes. If you have broadband and would be interested in this type of computer based work then get in touch. Full training will be given so it will necessitate a trip to our offices in London.

If you have any questions regarding volunteering for us or wish to help with any of the above then click here to get in touch.
