UPRIGHT ROUGH HEWN STONE OF REMEMBRANCE WITH DEDICATORY PLAQUE PLACED ON THE FRONT FACE. AT THE FOOT OF THE STONE IS PLACED ANOTHER STONE OF REMEMBRANCE WITH A PLAQUE ON IT LISTING THE NAMES OF THE DEAD.

BRASS CROSS PLACED AT THE TOP OF THE UPRIGHT STONE OF REMEMBRANCE

COLOURED ASKERN COUNCIL COAT OF ARMS DEPICTED ON ONE CORNER OF THE NAME PLAQUE

HERALDIC BIRD, MINERS LAMP, WHEATSHEAF AND EUROEPAN FLAG DEPICTED IN THE OTHER CORNER

SMEATON QUARRY DONATED THE STONE. WHEN THE STONE WAS BEING ERECTED IT BROKE IN HALF RESULTING IN THE CURRENT LAYOUT OF THE MEMORIAL.

The memorial stone was the initiative of the late cllr Fred Edson (ex Tank Corps).
