Physical Description

THREE LIGHT STAINED GLASS WINDOW WITH ROSE WINDOW ABOVE IT. FIGURES DEPICTED IN EACH LIGHT.

THE VIRGIN MARY STANDS IN THE CENTRE LIGHT REPRESENTING MOTHERHOOD. SHE STANDS ON FLOWERS WHICH REPRESENT THE MANY JOYS BUT THERE ARE ALSO SHARP THORNS TO REPRESENT THE SORROWS AND ANXIETIES THEY FACE. A SWORD HAS PIERCED HER HEART, REFLECTING THE LOSS OF A SON. SHE HAS GATHERED OTHER CHILDREN TO HER SIDE WHOM SHE LEADS ALONG THE PATH THEY MUST TREAD. ONE OF THE CHILDREN WEARS KHAKI.

THE LEFT LIGHT DEPICTS JESUS KILLED IN THE FIELD OF BATTLE AND TENDED BY ANGELS.

THE RIGHT LIGHT DEPICTS THE FACT THAT THE DEATH OF JESUS GIVES VICTORY. HE RIDES A WHITE HORSE WITH SWORD IN ONE HAND AND THE SEVEN STARS IN THE OTHER. HE WEARS A HELMET WITH THE CROWN OF THORNS ON TOP OF IT. THE CROWN HAS BLOSSOMED AND BEHIND HIM ARE THE MULTITUDE OF THOSE WHO FOLLOW HIS TRAIN.

IN THE ROSE WINDOW ARE TWO ANGELS HOLDING A CROWN SYMBOLISING THE REWARD OF THE MOTHERS' SACRIFICE.

BEAMS OF LIGHT REACH DOWN AMONGST THE TRACERY GIVING UNITY TO THE WHOLE.
