THIS PLAQUE COMMEMORATES THE BURIAL OF/ LANCE CORPORAL JOEL HALLIWELL V.C./ OF THE 11TH BATTALION LANCASHIRE FUSILIERS/ IN BOARSHAW CEMETERY/ L/CPL. HALLIWELL WAS AWARDED THE V.C. HAVING/ CAPTURED AN ENEMY HORSE, RODE OUT UNDER HEAVY/ RIFLE AND MACHINE GUN FIRE AND RESCUED A WOUNDED/ MAN. HE REPEATED THIS PERFORMANCE AND SUCCEEDED/ IN RESCUING ONE OFFICER AND NINE OTHER RANKS./ THE ABOVE ACTION TOOK PLACE DURING THE BATTLE/ OF THE RIVER AISNE IN FRANCE 25TH JULY 1918./ L/CPL HALLIWELL DIED ON 14TH JUNE 1958/ AGED 76 YEARS AND IS BURIED IN SECTION D. 1068/ OF THE CEMETERY
