(MOUNTING BOARD - RIGHT) ALSO TO THE SACRED/ MEMORY OF MORE THAN/ 500 OF THEIR GALLANT/ COMRADES WHO LATER DIED/ IN CAPTIVITY SERVING/ THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM
HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN YET,/ LOOK DOWN AND SWEAR BY THE DEAD OF THE WAR/ THAT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET/
THIS PLAQUE WAS CARVED WITH A PENKNIFE BY A MEMBER OF THE/ REGIMENT DURING THE EARLY DAYS OF CAPTIVITY IN SINGAPORE. IT/ WAS UNVEILED AND HUNG IN A CHURCH BUILT BY PRISONERS OF WAR IN/ CHANGI SINGAPORE, LATER DESTROYED BY THE JAPANESE AND THE/ PLAQUE LOST. SOME EIGHTEEN MONTHS LATER ON RETURN FROM/ THAILAND A SEARCH WAS MADE AND THE PLAQUE DISCOVERED UNDER/ A PILE OF RUBBISH AND FINALLY BROUGHT TO ENGLAND
