Physical Description
CORNISH CROSS: TWO-STEPPED CONVEX BASE SURMOUNTED BY SQUARE PEDESTAL, TAPERING SHAFT AND CROSS. INSCRIPTION IN BLACK LETTERING ON THE SIDES OF THE PEDESTAL AND TOP BASE. ADDITIONAL SMALL TABLET PLACED ON ONE SIDE FOR THE FALKLANDS.

2008: Repairs to the park and cemetery dividing wall led to the discovery of roman remains around and beneath the war memorial. The memorial was dismantled and stored to allow for excavation work to take place. It was then re-sited a short distance away.
c1980: TWO GERMAN FIELD GUNS ORIGINALLY SITED WITH MEMORIAL, BUT THESE WERE MOVED SOME TWENTY YEARS AGO (REPORT DATED DEC 2000) |
