IN HONOUR OF THE VOLUNTEERS WHO LEFT NOTTINGHAMSHIRE TO FIGHT IN THE INTERNATIONAL BRIGADE, SPAIN 1936-1939. THEY FOUGHT ALONGSIDE THE SPANISH PEOPLE TO STOP FACISM AND SAVE LIBERTY AND PEACE FOR ALL. THEY WENT BECAUSE THEIR EYES COULD SEE NO OTHER WAY. NO PARASAN./ (NAMES)
[new brass plaque] In proud and grateful/ memory of the men/ and women of this county/ who have sacrificed/ their lives for others/ and for freedom./ We will remember them./ This plaque was unveiled by/ Councillor David Taylor/ Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council/ on October 22nd 2009./

[original layout] 1st alcove: 2 bronze plaques listing the names. 2nd alcove: large bronze relief of town in ruins. 3rd alcove: bronze plaque with inscription. Information board in front of all three alcoves.
[replacement] 1st alcove: 3 bronze plaques listing original inscription and names. Large bronze relief in middle alcove and brass plaque at the front with new inscription. (3rd alcove empty)
