JOHN SAMUEL WHITE OF COWES IN 1941./ BATTLE HONOURS WERE AWARDED TO THE SHIP AT/ BISCAY (1941) CRETE (1941) LIBYA (1941) AND SICILY (1943)/ HMS ABDIEL WAS BLOWN UP BY A MAGNETIC MINE/ ON THE 9TH SEPTEMBER 1943/ AS SHE ENTERED THE ITALIAN NAVAL BASE OF TARANTO/ WITH A LOSS OF OVER 150 SERVICE PERSONNEL/ 26TH SEPTEMBER 1993 MRS M HALPIN/ TOWN MAYOR
