THE COWES TOWN COUNCIL/ THIS PLAQUE IS TO COMMEMORATE THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY/ OF THE BOMBING OF COWES ON THE 4TH/5TH MAY 1942,/ DURING WHICH THE OFFICERS AND CREW OF THE POLISH SHIP/ THE O.R.P. "BLYSKAWICA"/ BRAVELY DEFENDED THE TOWN AND WERE LARGELY INSTRUMENTAL/ IN REDUCING THE NUMBER OF CASUALTIES/ AND IN SAVING LARGE PART OF COWES/ FROM BEING DESTROYED./ 3RD MAY 1992/ G.J BANKS TOWN MAYOR
