WARRIOR / DIED 22ND AUGUST 1935, AGED 26 YEARS. / THIS WHITE GELDING SIXTEEN HANDS / SERVED WITH THE OLD CONTEMPTIBLES / IN FRANCE FROM 1914 TO THE END OF / THE WAR. HE TOOK PART IN THE RETREAT / FROM MONS AND WAS WOUNDED IN / THE ADVANCE ON THE AISNE. AFTER / THE SHRAPNEL HAD BEEN EXTRACTED / HE RETURNED TO DUTY AND DID / SERVICE IN SEVERAL FURTHER ACTIONS / UNTIL THE ARMISTICE. / HE WAS PURCHASED BY MISS / HILDA MOORE AND PRESENTED BY / HER TO THE TOWN. / HE AT ONCE ASSUMED THE CHIEF / POSITION IN THE POLICE STUD AND / BECAME HONOURED AND LOVED BY / ALL, NOT ONLY FOR HIS FAMOUS / WAR RECORD, BUT ALSO FOR HIS / EFFICIENCY, INTELLIGENCE, GENTLENESS / AND NOBLE CHARACTER.
