ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS TOWN WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918 GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT HE LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS / 1939 - 1945 TO THE MEMORY OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE WORLD WAR ALSO THOSE WHO DIED IN THE KOREAN WAR 1950 - 1953

Physical Description

THREE STEPPED BASE SURMOUNTED BY CORNISH GRANITE PEDESTAL WITH FIGURES ON IT AND THE OBELISK. TWO SHIPS PROWS PROJECT FROM THE PEDESTAL

ON THE CENTRE PLINTH ARE TWO SOLDIERS, ONE OF WHOM STANDS AS HE PROTECTS HIS WOUNDED COMRADE. ON THE PROW OF THE SHIPS STAND SMALL BRONZE FIGURES REPRESENTING THE ROYAL NAVY AND THE RAF. THE WHOLE IS CROWNED BY A BRONZE FIGURE OF PEACE AND AT HER FEET IS A BRONZE LAUREL WREATH
