There is some local confusion about the history of this memorial. One version is that the former village hall, which stood adjacent to the present one, was used as a hospital during WW1 and contained a board stating only that, and no war memorial was ever located in the hall. Another version is that the board had the names of the WW1 fallen added. Another version is that the names of the WW2 fallen were subsequently added. It has been suggested that when the old hall was demolished the board was moved to the outside wall of the adjacent library but that it subsequently deteriorated in the weather and was replaced by the current tablet in the 1970s or 1990s. |
