THE KING'S OWN / KILLED IN LEADING A CHARGE NEAR YPRES / FEBRUARY 17TH 1915 AGED 23 YEARS / HE LOVED AND WAS BELOVED / FOLLOWED AND SO COULD LEAD / DIED FIGHTING FOR ENGLAND / LIVES TO SERVES HIS GOD.

LOWER TABLET: TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF / LIEUTENANT GEORGE LAWRENCE HARFORD, SON OF / CANON G. HARFORD, VICAR OF THIS PARISH, WHO SERVED IN THE / 1ST & 2ND BATTALIONS OF THE KING'S OWN ROYAL LANCASTER REGT. / THE ABOVE TABLET HAS BEEN ERECTED BY THOSE NEAREST & DEAREST / TO HIM, WHILE HIS FELLOW WORSHIPPERS HAVE ALSO PLACED STAINED / GLASS IN THE SEVENTH CLERETORY WINDOW OPPOSITE, REPRESENTING / JONATHAN AND HIS ARMOUR BEARER

TWO TABLETS WITH INSCRIPTION IN INCISED LEAD ON THEM. THE UPPER TABLET IS OF WESTMORELAND LIMESTONE SET WITHIN A CARVED STONE MOULDING WITH PORTRAIT MEDDALION ABOVE THE INSCRIPTION

MEDALLION PORTRAIT OF HARFORD IN BRONZE ON THE UPPER TABLET WITH FOLIATE GARLAND BELOW IT. AT THE TOP CENTRE OF THE UPPER AND LOWER TABLET IS THE REGIMENTAL BADGE OF THE ROYAL LION. AT THE BASE OF THE UPPER TABLET IS HARFORD'S SWORD LAID ACROSS THE REGIMENTAL COLOURS
